Hahaha. I'd prefer if luck wasn't something we were relying on at all.
Still, if it's worked so far, we can hardly complain. If only there were better, more proactive ways to get things done that don't involve getting one's soul eaten by a haunted room...
I agree, but there's no point in turning away anything that is in our favor.
Honestly, I'd still like to know how, exactly, it does that. We still have no idea exactly what kind of creature it is that it can threaten universes like they say, let alone how to defeat it in the way that Master Blue requires.
How do you quantitatively and qualitatively measure a soul?
[ that's not just a philosophical question, even if it's a valid one considering the roombas in residence, but. ]
It's irritating that we constantly have to work in the abstract. Unless you think we'd be lucky enough for me to not count as having a soul by the house's metric?
...I think that will vary by the universe, don't you? My world's definition of a human's soul may not align with another's. But if you were chosen as a guest in a game with an entity that devours souls, it stands to reason that you do have a soul to be consumed. Otherwise, why bring you here at all?
No, I understand. Luna the other day was enough proof, anyway.
[ she just answered an implied question with another question, it's fine. ]
I just meant that, like the answer to what a soul might possibly be, we might not be able to get a good answer to what kind of creature the so-called Oddity is either.
I would settle for leaning how it consumes souls. We will not be able to free Master Blue if all we know is that he's connected to the house - we need to know how that connection was forged, to understand how to break it again.
That would be a useful thing to know, but I doubt we'll get a concrete answer on that any time soon other than that it simply does.
[ brilith, you're talking to the wrong type of being for anything metaphysical. ]
Irritating as it is, it might just be something we'll have to handle as it comes. Plan to adjust and adapt, rather than having any real plan for how things play out.
I don't know. Sometimes those are the best plans one can make.
[ says the one hoarding information from across millions of lives until the best opportunity to strike presents itself. ]
In all of its attempts to prove a point and devour us, I think this place has really done is train us in the best way to fight back against it, if our break-ins were any indication.
Oh, I hardly have anything better. We're all about as informed as each other at this point, right?
Still, it would be nice if we had a little more information to go off of... It seems what we've been receiving is about as much as we can get, given the overlap between different messages.
[ thanks for the redundancy and emphasis, ghosts. ]
So. Trust nothing we see, and beware of monsters. There may or may not involve puzzles. And of course: don't die.
We're lucky to have anything at all, I think. When this started, we didn't expect anything of the sort, after all.
The difficult part will be keeping our heads through whatever illusions this places throws at us. Some of us have already fallen for those illusions. If it knows we're actively moving against it, it will use everything that it can to break us.
I know what you mean... But is there anything that we can do, besides trying to fortify ourselves and sticking close to those who can ground us against it?
My system can either throw errors at me or not. It's leaned ... irritatingly towards the latter during my stay here, but I wonder if that simply just has to do with the nature of ... everything here.
[ it seemed like during that brief pause she might have deliberated about saying something else, but amended it at the last moment. ]
I couldn't say. Perhaps someone who would actually be aware of when I'm acting in a way that isn't in line with my preset personality settings and protocols?
[ a fair chunk of the mansion still seems unsure of what to make of her, so. ]
[ does she have friends? she kind of set most of her cr on fire a few weeks ago. ]
I don't like having to rely on others so much. But I'd rather it be one of them, than... [ she catches herself, and shakes her head. ] ...Nevermind. It doesn't matter.

I suppose that's what it seems to come down to, though. Especially if the source really is tied to that room that changes all the time.

Some of us might be hardened; not everyone here is. I wonder how grand this place's illusions can become

That's probably it, yes. Then, is there someone who you think would be most helpful to you, 45?

That doll you saw, once, that night in the museum. UMP40, in a memory of a memory that we shouldn't be able to access.
A few other people glimpsed similar things that week. Of them, Hunter was the only one who asked for details.
