[ i forgot to ask where they'd be so we're going to say the garden for ease of access. being out here is calm, and after all the turmoil of last week, coupled with that announcement, brilith could certainly use some calm.
though she wonders if her hopes aren't dashed when she hears someone else, and looks up to see zenitsu. it doesn't keep her from smiling, however. ]
[ he likes the garden. it's quiet, for the most part, and the flowers are nice to watch. the ducks are cute, too.
but talk about embarrassing! zenitsu recalls how his foot jumped a needy circle around brilith that day. as terrible as that was, he flaps his arms once to demonstrate that his hands won't just fall off. ]
I couldn't go anywhere. My body was upright, but my head was upside down on the ground. When the guy who knocked my head off tried to put it back on, I got so dizzy! I thought I was a goner for sure.
[ the surprise makes her falter. no one ever calls her that, even back home. it's either "priestess" or "brilith," and she's not sure how she feels to be called anything else.
[ for a second, he almost expects to hear a dreadful answer about how angry she might still be. he blinks when she says something entirely different before nodding.
following that, he doesn't have the nerves to ask again. his gaze strays to a patch of red flowers. ]
[ while she isn't entirely sure what zenitsu means... she doesn't mind turning the subject to something else. it's better than having yet another person worrying over her. ]
The red ones... they aren't my favorite color, but they remind me of home.
[ half an hour later, he returns with a wreath of flowers. leaves make up half of it, while flowers of various shades of blue decorate the other half. a single red flower sits near the end of its counterparts. he holds it out for brilith.
[ here they are, at the garden again. it's not long after leaving the mansion that he spots brilith in the garden. that head of red is impossible to miss from a short distance. he trundles over. ]
[ she is kneeling before what may be a familiar patch of dirt, with a small pile of trampled sunflowers at her side. there's a spade and a small pack of seeds in her hands, but she'll set them down when zenitsu approaches, to be polite. ]
[ coming closer, he's surprised to find that the sunflowers haven't been patched up along with the rest of the garden. his gaze lingers on the patch before lifting to brilith. ]
I'm feeling fine. Whatever Ash did, it worked wonders.
[ and because he bounced back from death with no trial to condemn him again, he's been riding on the high of having a proper life again. at the same time, he's kind of mad that his execution was so painful! what the hell, ash?
Good. Losing one more wasn't part of anyone's plans, you know. But I didn't mean just physically.
[ if zenitsu doesn't want to talk about it, though, she won't force it out of him. brilith knows, unfortunately well, how complicated emotions can be. ]
Yes, I am. [ she turns her eyes back to the patch before her. ] I was helping Isaac take care of them, for Asch. Even if we aren't here long enough to see them bloom, I didn't want to leave them like this.
[ three isn't so bad. hopefully, the rest of the garden won't need this kind of treatment. he sets to work in diligent silence, then waits for brilith's next instruction. ]
week 2, monday
though she wonders if her hopes aren't dashed when she hears someone else, and looks up to see zenitsu. it doesn't keep her from smiling, however. ]
I'm glad to see you have all your limbs again.
[ no more rogue feet! ]

but talk about embarrassing! zenitsu recalls how his foot jumped a needy circle around brilith that day. as terrible as that was, he flaps his arms once to demonstrate that his hands won't just fall off. ]
They're attached now. My head fell off once, too.
no subject
That must have been... disorienting. Where could the rest of you go without your head?
no subject
no subject
It must have been a relief to put yourself back together, then. I hope this week will be kinder to you than the last few have been.
no subject
What about you, Miss Ruin?
[ he didn't engage then, but he saw how distressed people were during the trial. he hopes brilith is feeling better. ]
no subject
but she only hesitates for a moment. ]
...You can call me Brilith.
no subject
following that, he doesn't have the nerves to ask again. his gaze strays to a patch of red flowers. ]
They're the same.
Do you like flowers?
no subject
[ while she isn't entirely sure what zenitsu means... she doesn't mind turning the subject to something else. it's better than having yet another person worrying over her. ]
The red ones... they aren't my favorite color, but they remind me of home.
no subject
What's your favorite color, then?
no subject
...I'm not sure. I like blue, though? [ so maybe that's it. ] Just don't tell Babo Kim I said so.
1/2
I'll be right back.
[ he doesn't even wait for her answer before he scuttles away. ]
no subject
good thing she's still here! ]

week 6, monday
Good morning, Brilith.
[ what's she doing? ]
no subject
Good morning, Zenitsu. How are you feeling?
no subject
I'm feeling fine. Whatever Ash did, it worked wonders.
[ and because he bounced back from death with no trial to condemn him again, he's been riding on the high of having a proper life again. at the same time, he's kind of mad that his execution was so painful! what the hell, ash?
anyway. ]
Are you planting more sunflowers?
no subject
[ if zenitsu doesn't want to talk about it, though, she won't force it out of him. brilith knows, unfortunately well, how complicated emotions can be. ]
Yes, I am. [ she turns her eyes back to the patch before her. ] I was helping Isaac take care of them, for Asch. Even if we aren't here long enough to see them bloom, I didn't want to leave them like this.
no subject
zenitsu closes the gap between them to look down at the patch. he ruined something that important, huh? ]
Can I help?
no subject
Of course. Do you know much about gardening?
no subject
[ maybe. it won't be very pretty, probably, but he will do it. ]
no subject
[ she hands him the spade, then, and picks up the pack of seeds again. ]
First we need to dig a small hole for the seeds. I've already done a couple, see?
no subject
How many holes do we need?
no subject
Three, I think. It doesn't need to be that deep, just a few inches so they'll have room to grow.
